I Believe I Can Fly
I've always been obsessed with flying - to me, it's the ultimate form of freedom... and I love me some freedom.
When I was little, I was truly convinced I could fly like Peter Pan and get my ass to Never Never Land and hang with The Lost Boys - all I had to do was sprinkle a little pixie dust over my head and think happy thoughts...
Instead, I got a bloody nose and a fat lip.
I'm happy to say I've had better luck with the trapeze of late. It not only represents an expression of freedom, but also taking a step outside of my comfort zone. I'm afraid I've become addicted. I love the satisfaction I get from rising up and facing a challenge head on - and kicking ass at it. Don't make me start singing "Eye Of The Tiger"...
It's sort of equivalent to being thrust into this world of having to be gluten free - many of us didn't have a choice. In choosing how you're going to move forward in your life, it's a sink or swim moment.
I hope like me, you've chosen to swim.
(and I'm not talking the dog paddle people, I'm talking big, powerful butterfly strokes!)
I believe you should do one thing a day that scares you... life's too short to play it safe. My new favorite quote from the lovely Shania Twain:
"If you're not living on the edge, then you're taking up space".
Next up... skydiving!!!
*I was also obsessed with this poem...
How do you like to go up in a swing,
Up in the air so blue?
Oh, I do think it the pleasantest thing
Ever a child can do!
Up in the air and over the wall,
Till I can see so wide,
River and trees and cattle and all
Over the countryside--
Till I look down on the garden green,
Down on the roof so brown--
Up in the air I go flying again,
Up in the air and down!
